    hose top crochet

Reading a thread on hose top sourcing, I decided to pick up a skein and a few cheap hooks and give crocheting a try. I have many good wool socks but all are too short to allow for fold-over/flash. The result was a good tube, but not quite the right look. Has anyone else crocheted hose tops in a good facsimile pattern or should I try knitting needles?

I'd go for knitting as it is more elastic.

I use crochet where rigidity is required. Just at the moment I am working with some natural cotton and have crocheted a coin pouch, a beret and am now working on some boots. All have no great amount of stretch in the fabric.

The elasticity of knitting would allow for a greater variety of design, cables, colour patterns both fairisle and intarsia techniques to give you different styles and looks.

I have gone to doing the very thing you are talking about. I posted a picture of the first hose cuff I knit here:

for an idea. Anne is right about the variation you can get with knitting. I have done many different cable patterns and really you are only bound by your imagination and abilities. With a few pair of hose and cuffs you can add a lot of variation to your outfit.
