Kilt Pin Idea (Would Appreciate Input)
I have an idea for a "custom" kilt pin and I would like to solicit some advice from The Rabble.
I have attached the image of a Masonic "challenge coin" that I have. It is approximately 2" or so in diameter, despite being an odd shape. I am considering ordering a second one to make a kilt pin out of using the "tack style" pins. Due to the size, I was thinking about using three fasteners in a triangular pattern or maybe four fasteners in a square pattern to distribute the load. What do you think? Would this be too heavy?

It's certainly a more American concept than Scottish, so it's a wee mite incongruous on a kilt. Nonetheless, Scotland (where the brethren are a lot less forthright) isn't where you are, so dependent on the weight of the pendant... go for it.

I'm not sure. I don't have access to a postal-type scale.

I think weight is the limiting factor.
I wore these two last year during the Olympics and Paralympics. Nothing to do with Scotland per se. I see nothing wrong with making a new kilt pin for every special occasion.

If I can manage to find a postal scale or something similar, do you have an idea of what a theoretical maximum gram weight should be for a pin?

My concept (at least in my head) was more Masonic than American per-se, but I get your point.

I don't know, but I would think that 8oz would be absolute tops. Ideally 4oz would be the target to aim for.

Rather than soldering on "tack pins", have you considered a magnet? There have been previous threads and examples of members doing this. Try the search on this site.
