    square silver or pewter buttons

Is there a preferred source for buying the square metal buttons for the Prince Charlie and Argyle jackets? Also, what is the preferred metal, pewter (polished?) or silver (worried about tarnishing)?

Thanks for the pattern help for the Prince Charlie jacket! So grateful.

Barring ordering from the jacket makers. Most who are in the UK.

May I suggest you look at the same source where many professional kiltmakers get their stuff.

    Got them!

Thanks for the suggestions. I contacted MaryBeth at Highlandxpress (said hello from Xmarks), and ordered the set for the Prince Charlie jacket and vest.

If you are worried about tarnish I'd go with pewter. You can carve a piece of wax to the shape you desire and make a mold of it using some RTV (gasket making silicone) and cast it with pewter on your stove if you are feeling industrious. Best of luck in your search!
