    Stretch a Balmoral

My Balmoral is a bit to small, are there any ways to stretch it a bit?

I thought of cutting a slit in the back and using some elastic in it but not sure if that is the way to go?

You could wet the head band/Balmoral then gently with both hands thumb and for finger pull around the headband it should stretch out a bit then put it on till dry,
Or dont pull it down too far on the back of your headr-BLACK-WATCH-large570.jpg

If it's a proper bamoral, it should have a little Vee at the back where the ribbon is folded at the sweat band. You can easily make a small slit and sew in a short bit of elastic to do the job. I did that with a tam o shater like the ones above that was too bing once. I was the only one who ever knew it was there.

    P. S. You likely can stretch it a bit while wet, but not much. give it a try and see how it works. You won't hurt the bonnet, and if it hasn't been jocked, it'll likely improve the looks.

I try to just get it to where it wont blow off in the wind but it is very hard to do, its close but painfuly close.

do you just set the band in a pan with about 1/4" of water for a bit and wear until dry?

I will look for that Jim. nothing has really been done to it but wear it.

it does need a bit of help on the side where the clan crest pin is, it drops really bad so I was thinking of taking some mylar and putting on that side and pinning the crest through it to help hold it up

Friday sounds like a good day to do this, I will till my back yard, rake it level and then plan grass seed, maybe it will dry out in that time

Oh, no. You'll want a big pot of water--or a full sink--or better yet, a local creek where you can give it a good dousing. It should be thoroughly soaked through, and don't wring it out, just give it a good squeeze and put it on your head, shape it, and see where it goes from there. (This is for "jocking" purposes.) If you can get your hands of a hat block that adjusts to the size needed, you could get it good and wet and put the block in and stretch it that way. Just a thought.

well streams around Dallas/Ft Worth are out of the question, no one knows what eveil lurks in there

I will use filtered water so there is no chlorine in it or for something special like that treat it with bottled water

Not all "proper" Balmorals have a v-notch. With Robert Mackie Balmorals, for example, the notch only exists if one chooses the 'tied ribbons' option.
