    Underapron Pocket?

I'm thinking of using the extra tartan cloth that came with my kilt to add an underapron pocket to my kilt.

Nothing too out there. Just a simple pocket to carry small items that I don't want to put in my sporran.
Any thoughts on these doo-dads and any background about them or advice about them would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Why not? Go for it. I used to wear one of my Grand Father's kilts made at a guess in the 1920's with a hidden pocket. It was not unusual and I understand that some military kilts had them. I am not sure if they were Officers bespoke kilts with an added pocket if requested, or just one of those things that Jocks in general added themselves.

I have been offering an Under-Apron Pocket as an option on my kilts for years now. It is really nothing more than a simple patch pocket.

I try to match the Tartan as best as I can.

I size my pockets around a passport and close them with a small 1" square of velcro. These pockets are perfect for your travel documents and money while on vacation.

But don't keep heavy or bulky items in them. The distortion to the aprons is pretty obvious.

Keep the pocket fairly centered on the under apron and slightly lower than the sporran to keep down chafe.

Angle the Pocket for easy access without having to lift the outer apron. You should be able to slide your hand into it unobtrusively. It looks pretty odd to strangers to see a kilted guy fumbling awkwardly under his apron in the supermarket check out line.

And finally stitch the pocket on fairly strongly. The corners of the opening are a high stress area.
