Updated source for garter tie pattern?

    hullo, rabble.

As I said in another thread, the garter tie pattern most often linked to on this forum has been purged from LiveJournal. Looking on Ravelry brought up nothing except links to the purged LJ page. Does anyone have a good source?

    Thanks,
    BW

Kiltedrennie gives the pattern right there in his post, and a couple posts down is a good video on making the tassels.

I see projects on Ravelry based on the LiveJournal pattern, and they don't appear to be any different at all from this except for maybe yarn weight, needle size and number of stitches on each row. It's basically a very narrow scarf. It's about the simplest thing you can knit.

Yes, I see several projects based on that pattern. However, I know literally nothing about knitting, and was advised by someone willing to teach me that she could only do so if I had a pattern to show her and learn from. Am I wrong in thinking this would be some sort of mock-up with pictures? I'm certain that the instructions @kiltedrennie provided make sense to those of you who already know how to knit, but it might as well have been Sanskrit to me.

Kiltedrennie's instructions are all that's required by an experienced knitter. I made mine 36" long (before tassels) as that's what commercial models (House of Cheviot) are. (I'm not sure if the length of those are including the tassels. Mine seem a bit long for me, but I need to practice tying them more).

    Give this to your friend:

Worsted weight yarn. (I am using less expensive acrylic. I think kiltedrennie was using wool left over from a bonnet project, and wanted to match his bonnet. I don't think fiber makes a lot of difference here.)
Pair of US#3 needles. These are knitted in the flat.
    Cast on 7 stitches.
    Row 1: Knit 7 stitches
Row 2 - end: slip one (purlwise), knit to end. Repeat row until total length is 36" or desired length.

You will want to add tassels to the ends when done. On each end will be six "loops" between the seven stitches. It's up to you how many loops through which you want to add tassels, and how many yarns to make each one. Several people were expressing their ideas in the other thread. I put a tassel in each of the six loops, and each tassel consistent of three folded-over yarn pieces. (So I had 36 yarns end on each end in the end.)

That's all there is to the "pattern." This is about the simplest thing you can knit. The only thing that might be slightly challenging to someone is working with the smaller needles.

Thank you for giving such clear instructions John. I've been busy and haven't caught up with XMARKS until today.
Here's my blog post on the garter ties. The Mark III ties at the bottom are the final version - same as your instructions above.
    Here's my Ravelry.com project post.

I'm thinking about making a quick-n-dirty instructional video. I'll post it in a new thread once it's done.

Thank you both for your informative answers, @John Henderson & @kiltedrennie! I hope to have (at least one) lovely new set of ties by this time next week!
