    I still can find no clear attribution for this painting.
    It seems to be used online mainly for the Jacobite Uprising, but The Caledonian Society used it in their newsletter (http://www.caledoniansociety.org/CSC...0of%202014.pdf page 10) and labeled it "Bonnie Prince Charlie leading the 1745 Rebellion".
    Another site labeled the leader as "The Earl of Mar": http://britishspeak.blogspot.ca/2011...lion-1715.html
    Other sites use it as a stock image for Culloden, and in at least one case the Austro-Hungarian Succession...

    Dale, I can see how there would be confusion for the painting's particular event (if it is the year '15 or '45) The Rebellion had few large battles and had many different groups with dynamic leaders for each charge. Both sides of the conflict would want to claim it as "the moment" best depicting the entire unrising era.
