    one for the books

I think this is probably the most appropriate place for this little true story.

I think most people on this forum know that I am heavily tattooed, including on my face. I have a house-mate that rents a room here to help with the rent.
He knows not to ask me to go to the opera with him as that is just not my thing. But yesterday he said he had 2 tickets for a new opera "Moby Dick", and asked me to go with him to see it. I agreed to go and told him I would be wearing one of my kilts and my Argyle jacket with vest and tie.
Well he had gotten these tickets through an organisation to which he belongs. After I agreed to see this opera with him he felt it necessary to call the head of the organisation and ask if there would be any objections if the person he brought was wearing a kilt. No word about that person having facial tattoos. His only concern was would they accept me wearing the kilt.
Maybe I have a weird sense of humor but that really made me laugh.

I must have the same weird sense of humor. Maybe the upshot is that tats, even facial ones, are more acceptable than kilts?

Perhaps the thought was that you could change your attire if it wasn't appropriate a bit easier than going to the store to purchase some sort of rouge to conceal your tats...

I always thought that I was the oddball as a Sailor by never finding a tat that I wanted.
I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.

Card-carrying member of "strange sense of humor" club -- thanks for the chuckle! Bob suggests that, given the opera in question, perhaps Queequeg takes your tats out of contention?

sydnie, several years ago was the 150th anniversary of the book Moby Dick. At a banquet to celebrate this event several of us had to play and dress as characters from the story and walk around while the guests were dining. The speaker for that evening was Patrick Stewart who had played Capt. Ahab in the lastest version of the movie. I guess you don't have to guess which character I was told I had to play, the others all got to choose the character they wanted to portray. Now, as photos are the only proof we accept here:

The really interesting thing here is that he and I are both members of the Stewart Clan
