Raise a dram on 08/18/2010 (Retro Red)

Tomorrow 08/18/2010 will be the one year anniversary of our close friend Craig (Retro Red) passing away. I encourage everyone to pour a dram of your finest Scotch or Whiskey and raise a toast to this great man that left such a great impression on so many of us. If you were lucky enough to have known Craig and to share in his life, you know that he would appreciate a toast in his honor.

I'm sure he's also been laughing and enjoying all the fun comedy that has been posted in his honor in Craig's Corner.

    May I add this?

Tell some of the worst jokes you can think of tomorrow. Red would like it.

And I think that I posted this at the time but I feel that it's appropriate when you remember the guy:

"The most important thing I learned on Tralfamadore was that when a person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral. All moments, past, present and future, always have existed, always will exist. The Tralfamadorians can look at all the different moments just that way we can look at a stretch of the Rocky Mountains, for instance. They can see how permanent all the moments are, and they can look at any moment that interests them. It is just an illusion we have here on Earth that one moment follows another one, like beads on a string, and that once a moment is gone it is gone forever.
When a Tralfamadorian sees a corpse, all he thinks is that the dead person is in bad condition in the particular moment, but that the same person is just fine in plenty of other moments. Now, when I myself hear that somebody is dead, I simply shrug and say what the Tralfamadorians say about dead people, which is “So it goes.”
    "

I had the privilege to be able to hang out with Red twice while he was on his trips to Chicago.

    To Retro Red!

When I served in the RCN we were in NC (USA) and it was close to Christmas, I walked past a shop with a Nativity Scene where the 3 wise men had firemans helmets on?

I inquired about the hats on the wisemen. The woman responded "don't yo'll know yur Bible? Three wise men came from afire!"

    You learn something new everyday.

    Cheers to Retro Red!

Won't be raising a dram - Got sober.

Have honored Craig by ordering up an Arizona state tartan kilt...with the weaving and the sewing should be able to wear it in time for next year's rememberance.

Has it already been a year.....wow. A dram (or two) raised in his honour -- definitely. He was a lovely man, and I really enjoyed meeting him.

But you've got to pronounce it "afar".
