Self defense for women
As many of you know, I'm a student of several martial arts. One thing we teach is basic self defense for women and girls. I found this and it just about made me fall over laughing.

Re: Self defense for women
I had a friend who studied martial arts for years. He told a story of one teacher who was teaching how to disarm someone holding a gun. The teacher made it clear that you had to be within a certain distance for the technique to work.
My friend asked what happened if you were outside that distance.
The teacher replied, "You get shot."

Are you sure he wasn't teaching defense against someone attacking, armed with a banana?

When going up against a martial artist, the weapon an attacker uses is usually more deadly to the attacker than the attackee(?)

I forget, for the banana, do you respond to the attack by shooting the attacker, releasing the tiger, or dropping the ten ton weight.

Depends if the banana is loaded or not...
From the Goon Show - The Affair of the Lone Banana
Morriarty: You swine! You shot me!
Needy Seegoon: Of course you fool! You don't think I'd threaten you with an unloaded banana do you!

That seems to be the case with most martial arts. It's very easy to take a gun away from someone if they have it at arms length. When it's tucked tight to their body and they are moving its will go bad.
Please excuse the spelling errors. My IPhone is "helping" me.

Then that makes you all the more equiped to deal with the situation. I study Shotokan karate and Hakoriu jujitsu. If I get ahold of you, well... It's gonna hurt- lots!

Not if I can get my hands on you... That's a misconception. We actually train to fight moving targets.
