Summer in Scotland
Is it true that summer is the nicest day of the year in Scotland?

Depends on how bad the midges are.

Last year we had no midges (in Inverness area) and temperatures between 6 and 16 degrees C...It was fantastic!

We went in August two years ago for the fringe festival. Midges weren't bad till we got to the top of Arthur's seat. We had fantastic weather in edingburgh and even better weather in oban.

Not a day under 30 Celcius for the last seven days in Perth, Western Australia and as high as 39 . . .
Definitely not kilt and tweed jacket weather.

As one, along with my wife of 40 years, who dislikes the intense heat and even more so the high humudity of summer in many parts of the world, we found Scotland's bracing summer weather very pleasant. For those who enjoy sun bathing you might want to look else where. Now midges, somewhat a similar problem to our Canadian mosquitos, I understand the concern. Mosquitos can be best avoided by being careful at dawn and dusk and with deet repellant.

No. We only have a nice summer's day, some years.

Couple of years ago on the ferry crossing from Port Askaig to Skye in the middle of August, we had snow. It was a fine summer day!

One year in June many years ago, I was driving to watch the Scottish Rally at 6.00am in the morning in a convertible with the roof down and no shirt on. The following year same time, same event, I was sliding around on snow, however the roof was not down this time and the shirt hidden under a few more layers.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
