Toy robot detours traffic near Coors Field, meets demise
This is funny... because it's true!!!

"DENVER (DP) - A robot met its end near Coors Field on Wednesday night when the Denver Police Department Bomb Squad detonated the "suspicious object," bringing to an end the hours-long standoff between police and the approximately 8-inch-tall figurine.

Denver police spokesman Matt Murray said a citizen called police at 3:27 p.m. to report the presence of the plastic, white, toy robot, cemented to the base of a pillar supporting a footbridge near 20th and Wazee streets. Police closed 20th Street between Blake Street and Chestnut Place but did let a few people past the police tape to retrieve cars parked in nearby lots.
Nobody was allowed within about 100 yards of the robot.
"Are you serious?" asked Denver resident Justin Kent, 26, when police stopped him from proceeding down 20th Street. Kent said he lived just past the closed area but was told he would have to go around via Park Avenue.
"I can't believe it. This is ridiculous," Kent said.
Traffic piled up at adjacent intersections as rush-hour commuters were forced to detour around the closure.

Don't know if it's funny or not...what would you expect...a block of semtex with a big alarm clock and a lantern battery taped to it? They routinely stop the rapid transit trains here in Chicago because some dope leaves his lunch bag on the train platform. Welcome to the Twenty-First Century.

I was disappointed that neither DHS nor the Denver Post stated how afraid I should be!

...actually, are they sure it was really a toy robot? What if it was an emissary from an alien civilization where they look like what we think of as toy robots?
...oh wait...I think I just saw the mothership fly over on its way to Denver...

Ah what a world of fear and stupidity in which we live. What if detonating the "suspicious object" released a super virus into the air while the culprits had escaped the country? I miss the good ol' days (yeah I said it, I'm old now) when you could glue a robot to a bridge (or a little green army man to your buddy's forehead) and it was just funny.

Nevermind. It's not worth it.
I do find it hilarious, though, that the police were scared of explosives being near a bridge, so their response was to ... blow something up next to the bridge.

(I kid, I kid! Please don't shut down the thread!)
I get the joke here! Unicorns don't actually exist!

The best comparable story I remember to this was when the Eaton Centre in Toronto (one of the largest shopping malls in the city, right down town) was shut for a couple of hours because of a carton of milk.
"Milk" was running a contest where your carton of milk would "Moooo" when you opened it if you were a winner. There was a small electronic gadget inside the carton that when opened would sound a moo. Someone in a foodcourt had a carton with this device in it and they had just left it on the table of the foodcourt when they left. A passer-by saw the carton had wires in it and called security. The whole south end of the mall was evactuated while the bombsquad came and determined the relative threat level. Cracks me up just remembering it...

But trolls do exist. They steal your socks! Only the left one, for some reason.
