American National Tartan
I've yet to see mention of the subject so I thought I would test the waters. In the event our new president is the one whose mother was from the Isle of Lewis and is himself 1/2 Scot, how can he be persuaded to attend the presidential inauguration and subsequent balls in formal highland attire. Perhaps the American National tartan, or his MacLeod family tartan for the balls. I would love to see the Kilt in the White House.

On the sailing forum that I sometimes view, there's a saying about "making popcorn" when viewing a post/thread that is bound to devolve into a great big, horrendous mess.
I've got my Orville Redenbacher, right here.

Being that (in my opinion) the Allen Brothers' yellow creation, and also all of the various American red/white/blue tartans, are hideous, I certainly do not look forward to seeing any such kilts in the White House.
(How's that for stirring the pot in an entirely nonpolitical way?)

Kilt's in American politics is something of an interest to me. As the Kilt is a Scottish garment worn primary because one is Scottish or honoring Scottish heritage, I am not entirely sure about how well placed it would be at an American inaugural event. I am not against it by any means, just not sure how appropriate it would be.
We had a candidate for Governor, who later ended up as a candidate for Lt. Governor in my state and he made a campaign promise in a speech at a convention to wear a kilt to his inauguration if he won. As I was a delegate at that convention I had the chance to ask him about it later, and he promptly backtracked on it.
Funny thing is that until I read this threat, I had no idea of that candidate's Scottish heritage. I knew about his German heritage, which he has embraced at least once when he was grand marshal of the NYC Steuben Day parade. Maybe he could pull a double and someday be the grand marshal of the Tartan Day parade, also.

I don't see an American president being inaugurated in a kilt ever. Kilt up for the wedding of a family member or close friend where it's going to be pretty standard attire for male guests? Sure, maybe. At some sort of state function in Scotland where kilts are again going to pretty standard attire for male guests? Sure, maybe, I guess? As interesting as it would be to see the Prez rocking a kilt I don't think it's going to happen.

The Canadian PM has a photo or few in kilt, but not at any official functions that I am aware of. There is an MLA in AB whom has worn his full regalia at/in the Legislature.
However, being the national dress of Scotland it would be difficult to imagine any head of state elsewhere in kilt/highland attire at constitutional or national ceremonial events.

WRONG!!! That tartan is more about death than it is about America.
