    Cameron of Loch Erracht?

I saw a WTB ad for somebody looking for a plaid in "Cameron of Loch Erracht" tartan.

I'm guessing that this is just somebody mangling the name Cameron of Erracht.

Or is there such a tartan? Google had no matches.

Sirs, I am interested in a Cameron clan tartan kilt, since my only kilt is a modern style. I dont know enough about my family history to know if Cameron of Erracht or another more specific would be appropriate, and I have read that Cameron of Lochiel would not be appropriate. For my use, and considering that my kilt would be worn in a state where I have never seen another kilt in my entire life (Alabama), I would prefer a muted or weathered hunting tartan. I am not likely to ever have the full ensemble of jackets, flashes, hose, sporran... and really just want something to wear casually and to honor that side of my family tree. Since Cameron isnt one of the biggest clans, I havent had much luck finding a kilt maker I could afford who actually offers Cameron tartans. Any advice other than save up money for a few years?

I cannot help with a specific kilt maker but would be surprised if any would have difficulty with any of the Cameron tartans. Some general information on the Cameron tartans is here whilst these papers deal specifically with the Erracht and Lochiel tartans.

Thank you for the "Lochiel" paper. I appreciate the information.
    Well done and thanks again.

I have a personal prejudice against all of the Allen Brothers' four-equal-stripe tartans. They look ungainly to me; I would alter the proportions, having the two central stripes wider. There's nothing in the Vestiarium description which indicates that the four stripes are of equal width, by the way.

As always thanks to Peter for the great information. However I can't seem to open those documents on my laptop.

Richard, that's strange. They are all written on my laptop and others I know can open them on theirs, both Windows and Mac. Could it be you pdf version?

Thanks Jock. I suspect that it's a pdf issue. You and I are up early - or not yet in bed
