Do my eyes deceive or is this kilt in Carolina tartan?

I just found an old thread where Peter (figheadair) listed the kilt as Duke of Rothesay hunting. I could only wish to have Prince Charles wear the Carolina tartan. What an honor for us if that were the case.

I think you may have misinterpreted a comment. Unless I was having a serious off day then I would never have said that because it's Prince Charles Edward. I was responsible for this particular setting, including a wide black selvedge mark. The cloth was woven by Andrew Elliot Ltd.

I did mistype my comment. The gentleman is Prince Charles. He is not wearing the Carolina tartan (though I would be thrilled if that would happen). It is the Rothesay Hunting as you and Bruce have said. Thank you for your corrections as a novice like me needs guidance.

No, it's not Rothesay Hunting, it's Prince Charles Edward tartan.

No reason to feel bad at all, this is what wikipedia says about it:

The Carolina Tartan was designed and registered with the Scottish Tartans Society in 1981 by Peter MacDonald of Crieff, Scotland. The design was based on a Royal Stewart tartan believed to have been worn by king Charles I of England during his marriage, giving it significance since The Carolinas were named after King Charles.[1] It was made the official tartan of North Carolina in 1991 when it was passed by the North Carolina General Assembly.[2] South Carolina followed suit and enacted legislation making the Carolina Tartan its official tartan as well in 2002.[3]
