    The Devil's Brigade Tartan

The Scottish Register of Tartans announces today a newly registered tartan for the famous (or infamous) 1st Special Service Force, a joint Canadian-US commando unit that was raised during World War II. The movie The Devil's Brigade was loosely based on this highly successful unit.

Makes me wonder how many of these brave troopers are still around.

That is a beautiful tartan. I'll have to look into it further. Thank you for the info.

Nice to see Dr. Smith is still designing tartans. Wonder if anyone has designed more tartans in modern times than he has.

I learned of one just this morning. Frank (no last name given) whom was seen at the Royal Canadian Legion in Pincher Creek, AB last evening.

That tartan is quite nice, and quite traditional-looking. It wouldn't look a bit out of place being worn in an 18th century portrait.

There were three men, enlisted, with my surname that were members of the "Devil's". One Canadian and two Americans. Two have passed on and I can't find the third as of yet. The FSSF Association web page can lead to the full Roster.

I'd love to own and wear this tartan, but don't believe I can due to the restrictions placed on ordering without a lot more paperwork than I feel comfortable submitting. By my standards with this tartan, (excluding anyone else's opinion) special permission seems needed for me (for memorial purposes to possible family members that served with them).
