Falkirk Tartan - Oldest British Example of Tartan Fabric

I saw this article a few days back and didn't see it here so I thought I'd share. It mentions the earliest known example of British/ Scottish tartan found on a single piece of fabric from near the Antonine Wall. Of course there have been earlier examples of tartan clothing from continental europe and even the body of the 3000 yr old Cherchen man in the Tarim Basin of China.

Ancestral Surname: Nobles, possibly kin to Clan MacKintosh.

Firstly, can I suggest that this thread is moved to the Tartan Place - Mods?

Oh dear! Whilst the piece about the so-called Falkirk Tartan is correct, the majority of the artical includes a fair amount of the usual journalistic rubbish and half-truths.

Following the Jacobite rebellions from 1688 to 1746, which included the last victory of note for the Jacobites at the Battle of Falkirk Muir in 1745, tartan was banned on penalty of imprisonment by the English in the Disarming Act of 1746.
