    Heritage of Ireland Plaid

In the past I have mentioned that I bought the Heritage of Ireland Kilt on ebay. I like the brighter green compared to the Irish National.

My wife likes it also and recently asked me about getting her a shoulder sash in the HOI tartan. I sent an email to "Irisheyes" and was told that she would soon be stocking a Plaid in that pattern. She was kind enough to send me an email when the material came in and I ordered one last Friday. It was mailed Monday from Great Britain and arrived in Germany on Friday.

The Plaid is just short of 3 yards long and is 54 inches wide (267cm x 157 cm). The sett of the Plaid is smaller than the sett of the kilt pattern, and the design is not quite the same, but close. The material is polyvicose.
It cost me about 25 British pounds plus 12.5 pounds for air shipping (a little high, in my thinking) and that includes the VAT. Sometimes it is just easier to pay the extra and get it quicker. Overall cost around USD 71.

Not great material, but I intended the kilt for casual wear and for St. Patrick's Day. I've posted a couple of pics of the kilt and the plaid side by side.

There are a couple of options for my wife, and I would like to ask for advice from some of the experts out there (Opinions welcome from non-experts also, I'll let you decide which category you fall under)

I think there is enough material for a pleated skirt and maybe a sash for her. Waist is 30 inches and hips 40 inches and a half-witdth of material comes below her knees by about 4 inches. Is there enough material to make a pleated skirt? Would someone be interested in sewing it up for her? (send me a PM)

Or just cut enough from one long edge for a sash, about 11 or 12 inches wide.
From the remainder, I might try my hand at a box-pleated kilt. Or, would someone starting out making kilts like to try it (I'd be willing to pay the labor and shipping if reasonable).

We are only looking for something for casual wear. I have other kilts for nicer occasions.

    Any comments will be welcome.

That's great if you're truly happy with it.

In no way am I trying to be a jerk or anything. But, I honestly find the two tartans to be WAY off (IMHO of course!)
