MacDonald of Glenaladale Tartan
I’m trying to track down the original fragment of the MacDonald of Glenaladle tartan. In 1968 the tartan was rewoven in Scotland from details taken from an old specimen that was apparently at, or in some way associated with, St. Peters, PEI. The original is thought to date to at least 1772 when it was taken there by John MacDonald of Glenaladale when he and his siter emigrated.
My research leads me to believe that the 1968 interpretation/copy was significantly inaccurate and I’m trying to confirm the correct pattern. Ideally I want to track down the specimen, which I feel must still exist, and if at all possible get a photograph of it to confirm the pattern, colours etc.
Does anyone live on Prince Edward Island or got any contacts there that would be interested in helping with a bit of historical research?
In anticipation,

If I recall, one of our members, Cloves, lives in PEI. I haven't seen her on lately though.
I'm in Halifax, NS, however and I don't have any close contacts in PEI, but if I can help with anything, I can give it a shot.

This site : www.islandregister.com is a great geneology/history site for PEI.
There is a great list of family histories. Perhaps this site may be able to help in the search for a fragment.

Have you contacted the Clan Donald Museum on Skye? I would think their word would be the definitive answer to your question.

Oh yes, and the answer is no. There's no-one there that has this level of knowledge.

I have fond memories of Halifax. Was there too many years ago with the military. whilst there I did manage to get up to Antigonish to look at a couple of amazing old plaids. Quite unique.

For those who are STA members, here is a link to an article on the STA site detailing the "amazing old plaids" that Peter mentions.

I have been attempting to contact an my uncle in St. Peter's Bay, PEI... so far, no luck...I will continue to press on.
Meanwhile I have send a copy of Figheadair's request to Elenor MacDonald who is doing some MacDonald geneology for lot 36. This is the lot the Capt. John MacDonald had bought when he emigrated to PEI. Hopefully there will be some good feedback.
