Fake Scots Titles
I dont know if this is the correct pace to post this and if not, the moderators, I am sure, will move it to the appropriate place. (Not the bin please )
I would like to bring to your attention the website Fakes Scots Titles http://www.scots-titles.com This is a NEW website and its content in many respects affects us all with an interest in Scotland its Culture and Heritage. It sets out to expose those using fake titles such as Chief, Lord, Laird & Lady etc.
In my opinion a website like this is long overdue and also goes to some lengths to bring to everyone's attention the retailers of some of these title scams. Folks visiting can also register to the site and comment on the various posts.

Long overdue, indeed.I must keep an eye on this website, it will raise a smile more often than not I am sure, although too much of these seriously deluded people might be a health hazard!

Delusions of Grandeur...
Interesting stuff. Who is the author of said website? Not to necessarily doubt the truth of what the site puts forth, but they don't seem to say who they are in fact... just makes me wonder.
At any rate, I read with a bit of sadness about the fake Laird & Lady scams (ie buying a square foot of Scottish estate): my wife bought one for me a few Christmases ago, and while I certainly held no visions of grandeur about my so called "Lairdship" (definitely would NOT make a video about it), it seemed nice that the land was being preserved/conserved in some fashion. But I suppose this is not the case...
It would seem that the Scottish Heritage market is chock-a-bloc with such scams.

The author of the website is Lord Bradford a genuine Earl. If your plot of ground is where I think it is, it is highly unlikely to change from its present condition for at least until the next ice age.

Reality Check...
Oh, right. Upon further perusal I discovered a link to the Earl's other site, which I found to give a much more... genuine impression.
Yeah, we probably didn't put a lot of thought into the reality of the whole Kincavel/Ardnamurchan situation; more of a novelty to us, I guess... We're not likely to be able to visit it until the next ice age, anyway. :P Maybe by then we can drive to Scotland?

We have at least three Lairds of Lochaber and one Lady of Lochaber who are members of this forum. I am sure they are intelligent people who are aware that the little ownership certificate which they bought is no more than a souvenir of their visit to Scotland and their use of a title in their signature here is a little piece of harmless fun. Though it seems like easy money for the people who market this sort of thing.
What does annoy me though is posers who make totally false claims of nobility and who wear feathers at Scottish gatherings to which they are not entitled.
This new website should afford a good way of checking out the credentials of some of the suspects.
Regional Director for Scotland for Clan Cunningham International, and a Scottish Armiger.

One brand of Scotch also gives out "Land" if you register with them.

But it doesn't bestow a "title of nobility" with it; the only thing you get is a dram should you ever visit the distillery as "rent", and a rather nice-looking shingle to hang on your wall. The only title it comes with is "Friend of...."
Not really the same thing.
