Came across this article today. Very interesting read and wondering if something like a gofundme account would be beneficial. Would need to be set up by someone a lot more closely associated with the need.

Interesting article , I have read some information before about the attempts of trying to save and restore Duart Castle .
I have worked in the occupational field of architecture , construction and renovation all my life and it always deeply saddens me to see these situations which are many . I have read about the financial difficulties of either maintaining or restoring such pieces of history whether in Scotland or England .
Generally the task is monumental in the case of Duart Castle . I would venture to say that the reality of bringing it to a proper state of condition in every aspect would probably exceed 50 million pounds given the age , the deterioration , the type of materials needed and the historical restoration requirements .
Once that's done there is always the cost of constant maintenance .
As always , this is to be expected but so very sad to see .

Yes it is sad, particularly for the immediate family who are having to make some very unpalatable decisions with personal and National historical ramifications.
In the end £50 million is one heck of a lot of money to find, particularly as that is not the end of the expense. I am not in the least bit surprised at the estimated cost as I have battled, on a lesser scale, with the ever present and unhelpfully destructive Western Highland weather for decades and have never yet thought that I have ever beaten it!
Let us face it, can a family, a nation even, ever justify that sort of expense on a building of this kind, when realistically there are far more pressing and immediate needs elsewhere? There are sadly many ruins in Scotland where this kind of decision has had to be made over the centuries.

Thank you for allowing me to join. I am a 76 year old from Michigan. Rumor has it that I am of Scot-Irish heritage on my fathers side. Having a rough time trying to prove it. Still searching. Again my thanks for he add.
