    Clan Hannay

    Greetings all,

Are there any Hannays floating around on this forum? I am descended from a Robert Hanna who came to Charleston, South Carolina from Northumberland, England by way of Ulster, Ireland prior to the Revolutionary War.
I know that there is another Hannay line which came through Pennsylvania.

Interesting! I don't know anything about the lines, but there were numerous Hannas in the Pee Dee region of eastern SC, where I grew up.

This is sheer speculation, but based on oft-seen patterns of migration, the Pennsylvania line may have come from Ulster, as well. And some of them may have come right on down to the Carolinas (see "Great Waggon Trail") over a period of years.

    fluter,

That is possible. I know that there were at least two different Hannay families that fought in the Revolution under Francis Marion, one of which are my ancestors. My ancestors, for the most part, remained around the Marion County region after the war.
