    A lesser metioned clan...

After searching the forum, I was surprised to see that Clan Blackstock had never been mentioned. It appears to be a relatively obscure, small clan. I'm still learning about it, since my gg'ma was a Blackstock. Apparently it is border clan with some historical ties to Maxwell. It is listed as a sept to Douglas, but I can't seem to find any historical evidence linking the two. Again, I'm still just learning about it. Anyone else out there descended from a Blackstock or have any information about the clan? Thank you!

I was just on the Clan Maxwell USA website (http://www.maxwellsociety.com/Society/Clanusa.htm) and the Maxwell's definitely claim Blackstock as one of their alllied families.

Here's a link that gives a bit of information about Maxwell allied and dependent families, which provides some information about Blackstock: http://clanmaxwellusa.com/allied.htm

    Hope this helps!

No real info I'm afraid, but there was a Clan Blackstock tent at the Stone Mt games in Georgia this year. At least I think so.

The Scottish Tartan Authority lists two tartans, Blackstock Htg, ITI number 1120, a clan/family tartan. and Blackstock Red (Dress), ITI number 1881, also a clan/family tartan. Both designed in 1983 by Bob Martin.

    Hello

I couldn’t help notice the name Blackstock. I don’t know if it helps, but when I was a boy, my father used to bring us on holiday to his old stomping grounds in Kintyre, Argyll. We used to stay at A’ Chleit, near Tayinloan on the Atlantic coast and sometimes helped Auntie Babs’ son Charlie MacIsaac with his fishing. He was a creel fisherman, going for lobsters and cruben. There was a rival inshore fishing family down the coast who vied for the same fishing grounds. They were the Blackstocks and Charlie used to get quite excited sometimes, talking about them, as he suspected they were emptying his creels when his back was turned. More like his bait was no good and he wasn’t catching them. My dad, brother and I couldn’t help seeing the funny side and we used to imagine a hillbilly-type feud between the MacIsaacs and “them durn’d thievin’ Blackstocks”. Har-de-har !!

So you might want to check on any link with Blackstock and Kintyre, Argyll. It is possible the name refers to the old Highland black cattle (or stock) which were the backbone of Highland life until the Clearances.

Maxwell is a fine Scottish name, considering James Clerk Maxwell changed the face of physics forever.

That's okay, Clan Keith is rarely mentioned either. Just one of those things I guess.

Interesting you should mention Keith. Our immigrant Blackstock married an Austin from Scotland. Apparently, there is some connection between the Keiths and Austins. Anybody have any info on that?
