Would YOU wear another "clan's" tartan?

    Hi guys.
I'm very curious as to what you all find appropriate as to clan relations (or not) and tartans?

I've made a wee poll on the thread as polls have always helped me get a good idea of the general feelings on the forum. I'd appreciate if you could vote on it and perhaps even leave a reply with your views on whether you wear only clan tartans of those within certain aspects of your bloodline, or if you would wear any clan tartan affiliated with any surname in your family tree, or finally if you wear any clan tartans for any other reasons such as you like the tartan's colours or sett.

Personally, I have a couple of kilts in clan tartans to which I have no known affiliation to simply because I like the tartans. One of them is actually my girlfriend's clan tartan - Robertson and I bought it because it's such a beautiful tartan. My dad is called Robert, though

Also... as a side comment; how do you feel about corporation tartans, and if corporations using a clan tartan in company use?

Thanks for your opinions (which I'm sure will follow!),
    Paul

    I just got a poll sorted. I believe you're option #1 then!
I respect that you would only wear your own clan's tartan. I have friends with similar opinions and I think they're right in their own way.

How do you feel about company/corporation tartans and if a company uses a particular clan tartan in its marketing or services?

Ive voted that i'll wear any tartan that I like the look of for daily wear, I have several kilts in various tartans and more in the future im sure.
On the other hand I can only see meself wearing my own tartan for formal occasions, the exeption being a tartan suited to the event for example I want a kilt in the Royal Air Force tartan i would wear that to all formal events which I would be able to (When I dont have to turn in in uniform) in my role as a SNCO(ATC) but the rest of the time when dressing up it would be my tartan that I think of first.
    The hielan' man he wears the kilt, even when it's snowin';
He kens na where the wind comes frae,
But he kens fine where its goin'.

I suppose over the years I have resigned myself to the fact that some clan tartans have been used for marketing.I can't say I like the idea much, but perhaps a deal has been done with the Clan Chief, I know not. I have no problems with company/corporation tartans as long as I was not made to wear one. In truth that situation has never arisen in my case.On the other hand, had I served in a Scottish Regiment, then I most certainly would be proud to wear their tartan------ whilst I served with them.

I would not, even of the clan of my last name, because I cannot make that physical tie.. so I wear the tartan I do have a tie.. the USMC Leatherneck. I wear a Saffron, because of my Irish blood.

Others do, and have, and thats ok.. its how they feel.. I choose not to..

The corporate tartans, are much the same.. to me... no connection... I will not wear it..I feel I have what I need, already.. even though I am tempted by some tartans, I feel I need to get my jackets, sporrans, and such.

Regarding clan tartans, I would only wear my father's and mother's clan tartans (Mackintosh and Bruce respectively). I also wear clergy as I am an ordained clergyman. It is nice that there are a variety of colorations (hunting, weathered, etc) for all three.

I wear MacRae for my mother's side and County Antrim for my father's side. Beyond that, all my kilts are fashion or universal tartans.
