I've managed to achieve a breakthrough in my genealogy research, and can now trace my Kilpatrick lineage back to 1690 in Northern Ireland (Ulster Plantation). I have been able to verify the following from source documents and referenced genealogical published works, starting with my mother:

Pamela Kilpatrick (1946-2011), daughter of Leweir Lovell Kilpatrick
Leweir Lovell Kilpatrick (1918-2006), son of William Peter Kilpatrick
William Peter Kilpatrick (1876-????), son of Peter B. Kilpatrick
Peter B. Kilpatrick (1828-1886), son of William C. Kilpatrick
William C. Kilpatrick (1800-1862), son of James Kilpatrick
James Kilpatrick (1765-1821), son of Alexander Kilpatrick, Jr.
Alexander Kilpatrick, Jr. (1718-1808), son of Alexander Kilpatrick, Sr.
Alexander Kilpatrick, Sr. (circa 1690-1738), son of ????

It appears that Alexander Kilpatrick, Sr. emigrated from County Tyrone to the colonies some time around 1730 with his family. Incidentally, his wife was Scottish-born Magdalen MacGillivray, daughter of Farquhar MacGillivray, the chief of Clan MacGillivray.

Anyway, Alexander Kilpatrick, Sr., is a very well-known and well-documented person in early American history. This book devotes over 60 pages to him and his lineage. However, I don't know how to chase the lineage beyond the point where he crossed the pond. Does anyone know his history in Northern Ireland, or where to look to chase his ancestry there? Are there any books that would have specifics on Kilpatricks in the Ulster Plantation time frame, possibly with the history of when they left Scotland, etc.?
