c1850 Cunningham sword on Antiques Roadshow

Thought our Cunninghams (and others) might enjoy this look at a beautiful c1850 sword, reportedly made in England with Clan Cunningham engravings for a U.S. resident. Came up on Antiques Roadshow (U.S. version) recently.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. And of course, we know that there is no such thing as a "family crest" in Scots Heraldry, rather the crest (armorial bearings) belonging to an individual Cunningham. I wonder if the original owner, John Cunningham, was armigerous? Or, perhaps the Cunningham heraldic engravings on the sword are an homage to the Chief?

When I was with Wilkinson Sword it was not at all unusual to etch the arms or crest of an armiger on the blade of a sword. Cost extra, but a few did opt for it.
