J&R Glen - Just before Closing

Here's a newspaper cutting that I thought might be of interest.

Joe Hagan and (the late) Archie Rowan in the photo at the top of the page. They used to make bapipes in the cellar of the shop prior to it closing down and Joe opening his own shop just round the corner.

Archie's son (Bert Rowan) also used to make the instrument and was a piper/piping teacher for many years, but sadly he passed away a couple of years ago.

In the bottom photo is the late Gordon Stobo, who had previously owned Highland House on the other side of the street. I used to work for Gordon at J&R Glen during my school summer holidays.

One of life's real characters. I never, ever saw him wearing trousers and I'm not even sure if he even owned any. I only ever saw him wearing the kilt whether at work or at home. His Red Gordon tartan kilt was one which he wore a lot.

Another of Gordon Stobo. I can't recall where I got this photo from, it either came from someone else's post on a website or it may have been given to me by Bert Rowan before he passed away. Apologies if the former.
