Many thanks for posting this jhockin. I have read Professor Pittock's earlier work, The Myth of the Jacobite Clans: The Jacobite Army in 1745, and will certainly be buying this book.

Interesting but not exactly a new theory. The pivotal roll of the Argyll Militia and the British cavalry is discussed as part of the current battle narrative at the NTS Culloden centre.

Ironically, I'll be at Culloden later this week. I've been several times, so this time I'm going to focus particularly on the this very part of the field in which the Government Highlanders played a key role (and also engaged the Royal Ecossais on their flank).
