Does anyone know the name of this painting or who painted it?
Where did you get the image?
I have seen it before, in a book about the Bruce, I believe. It is supposed to depict a priest giving his blessing/last rites to soldiers before the Battle of Bannockburn if I recall the context. All I can tell you is that it is a modern painting, and does not get the dress at all correct for the time period.

Mel ... ? Oh, I remember now. Isn't he that short actor who played a policeman with a death wish and a penchant for violence? Didn't know he could paint. Regards Chas

I have seen it in a couple of children's Scottish history books from the 1960's, but I believe the painting to be a bit older. It's funny how some things stick in your napper, the painting is of the very famous Abbot, Maurice of Inchaffray. No idea who painted it though. ***EDIT***Hmmmmm, just by a bit of Googling it might be "The Abbott of Incheffrery blessing the Scottish Army before the Battle of Bannockburn", painted in 1876 by James Drummond.
