    Three Strike Tartan Mobile App

(Hopefully the library is the correct place for this. As an MLS and school librarian by profession, I'll take the liberty of suggesting other media should be acceptable here, too. A quick forum search found no previous posts on this...)

    Three Strike Tartans
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/3str...761548072?mt=8

Free---updated Dec 13, 2013--- requires iOS 5 compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad (tested on my iPad 2)

Given a clan name you must select the correct tartan from a selection of six. Three failed attempts and the round ends. Keeps track of your personal best scores and includes a challenge your friends feature I haven't explored. There are no reviews on the site and I've only tried a few rounds, so I can't comment on the stability. The tartan images come from Wikipedia and aren't consistently in how they present setts, but hey, it's free.

There are a couple odd choices that suggest the developer may not be a serious kilt person who is depending on dubious choices made by Wikipedia. The one that struck me personally is that clan MacFarlane is represented by the black and white dress tartan. Similarly, Buchanan is represented by a dress tartan I've only ever seen on Wikipedia. otherwise a great way to kill some time, no?

I've just recently toyed with this app as well. I noticed what you did regarding some of the tartans as well, that some don't use the most common tartan associated with a clan. But I do agree, it's fun to sit around and kill some time. And given it doesn't just have the common tartans (Stewart, Wallace, etc.) It's been difficult for me to make it beyond 7 or so tartans. Good time.
