    decent quality sgian dhu

    Hi everyone.

Is there such thing as a production sgian dhu that is actually decent? Or is there a custom knife maker that is known on the forums that can make a functional blade that is simple, not too ornate and would be able to match day wear?

While I was in the UK, I saw a few different models, but the steel looked cheap.

For the price being asked for these models, I just wondered if there was a better option made out of a decent steel like at least AUS8, 1095, S30V, etc?

    Thanks for the advice.

For casual day wear, I often wear this:

Not very traditional, but it is a very effective tool. Thin enough to ride decently in the hose, as well.

    You might try...

I've purchased three sgians from forum member Taygrd, and have been very pleased with them.

You can see his work here: https://www.facebook.com/Taylor-Knives-118232621593669/

I've also had good luck with Adriaan Gerber (http://www.adriaangerberknives.com/index.html) and Michael Wise (http://www.angelfire.com/my/wisecust.../4Gallery.html) Scroll to the bottom to see Michael's version of the sgian.

Kind of depends on what your budget is.

Send me a PM if you'd like to see photo of mine.

    Good luck,

I make my own, I've advanced to forging in lieu of stock removal, and I'm using better steel, I'm soon attempting my own Damascus (assuming I can successfully forge weld with just heat, hammer and muscle)

Here was my first decent attempt at a Sgian Dubh, driftwood handle and simple blade.. I wear it most every kilted outing
