good places to learn sgian dubh making
So, having lost my sgian dubh between highland games and having found a deer antler (including the base) at my Parents' house, I've decided it would be nice to make a replacement. However, i have to idea how to go about attaching a blade (at the least). Can anyone here recommend a good online place to learn how?
Thank you in advance!

Google the subject and a few videos will appear. Antler, especially whitetail antler, can be difficult to work with. Ideally you could use Sambar stag, if you can find some at a reasonable price. The core of Sambar is much smaller so anchoring the antler on the tang of the blade will be more secure, at least it has been in my experience. It is also harder and a bit more difficult to drill. I have made a number of sgians with antler handles and it is not difficult as long as you have a drill and a small belt sander available. Also, it is wise to use 30 min. epoxy to secure the antler on the tang of the blade rather than the 5 min. variety.
