    Source for sharpening.

I recently bought a very nice dirk from MacSpadger. It was, however, completely blunt. One of my personal quirks is that if I carry a blade, it will be a functional blade. I sent the dirk to a friend of mine, and science fiction writer, "Mad Mike" Williamson, who is also a knife maker. I also have one of his sgians. The dirk came back in just a few days, and for a very reasonable price. Mike sharpened the edge, polished the main flats, and left the patina on the slightly recessed etching, which made a very nice effect. Highly recommended if you need quality maintenance on your dirks or sgians.

I thought I had a picture, but I guess not. I'll add one when I can.

This friend wouldn't be Michael Z., would it? A good craftsman with both words and steel.

In Australia a blunt knife is viewed the same as a sharp one - as they have a "similar appearance" and can be used to threaten in the same manner. Rubber training knives are much the same.

Better to be hung for a reason than a technicality.

As for sharpening. it's not hard to do, but requires patience and consistency.
