I am looking into getting a sgian dubh.I found theses at the Mast general store in Boone, NC.They were made by Robby Bowman of Iron Mountain medal craft in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.He was on Forge by fire.The blade is not tradional and sheath would need some work.Its also only $120.00.Would you consider theses?

Nice knives! However, I don't really consider any of them a sgian dubh. They also look like they might be a big awkward in kilt hose, but would be great hanging from a kilt belt instead.

The three knives at the top of the photo do not appear to be sgian dhus, but appear to be much more like the type of American 18th-19th century"buckskinner" belt knives I've seen on offer by craftsmen at reenactments and living history market fairs.

As nice as they appear, I would not consider wearing these knives in kilted attire as I am a traditionalist when it comes to edged weapons while wearing a modern kilt outfit or recreated period costume.

I have to agree that they do not look as if they would ride well in kilt hose. I would want to at least try it before I would buy one.

I agree some of the blades are too long and the shape of the blade is not traditional, but if it was 3-3.5 inches long, would you consider it?

For about $250.00 you can spend the day there making the "knife of your dreams" under supervision of course, where you shape the blade yourself.However once add hotel room etc.

i wanted something better than the $70.00 plus you see on line and less than the $400.00 plus for a truly custom made sgian dubh.

I would want to see the back side of the antlers to see if they are flat enough to lay comfortablely against the leg. Alternatively you could look at the Sheffield cutlery company they have some nice ones and check with Steve at freedom Kilts he has one that is good looking and apparently can be sharpened to a nice edge.

I would not consider any of them for sgians but they are very nice knives, at least they appear to be. The blades look very familiar to me and resemble the Brusletto blades I have seen offered by Track of the Wolf. However, since the maker has appeared on Forged in Fire I doubt that he uses factory made blades! The price is certainly reasonable for hand made blades.
