    2018 Southern Maryland Celtic Festival

My wife, Susan and I attended the 40th Annual Southern Maryland Celtic Festival on Saturday (Apr 28), held at Jefferson Patterson Park in St. Leonard, MD. The venue is just south of the Washington, Annapolis, Baltimore area and the park overlooks the beautiful Patuxent River. This is an outstanding festival with sanctioned athletic, band and dancing events. The weather was beautiful and everyone was glad to be outdoors and to be among the clans and bands.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. Dandelion

When I attend a festival like this one, I always wear my Dandelion, the symbol of our X Marks clan.

As my wife and I were walking around the festival I had spotted a very smartly dressed (in the tradition of X Marks...) young man with an antler cane and wondered, if indeed, he was one of us. Later in the afternoon, that same individual approached me and inquired if my flower meant that I was a member of XMTS. His name is Brandon (ThistleAndHarp) and he is a relatively new member of XMTS. It was a delight to meet such a bright, enthusiastic and smartly dressed young man.

Of course, I got a picture of Brandon and his wife.

I must say that the Celtic Society of Southern Maryland, does an outstanding job with this event. Here are some additional pictures from the Southern Maryland Celtic Festival.

Yes, it made it oner and at the 11 o'clock position!

This one made it over too and tied a record!

This is the athletic field surrounded by the clan tents.
