    2023 Phoenix Scottish Games

    Any members going?

    https://phoenixscottishgames.com/

I'll be there Saturday, driving in from California for the day.

One thing I'm especially interested to see is the Isle of Skye Pipe Band. It's rare, as you might imagine, for bands in the UK to make such a long journey.

It's unfortunate that the organisers have chosen to have their Games occur during Baseball Spring Training.

This is the busiest time of year in the Phoenix area with nearly two million fans from all over the USA pouring into town, sometimes staying a week or more. Thus accommodation is hard to find, and hotels are charging double or triple their normal rates.

I'll be looking more or less like this, if you spot me please come up and say "hi".

I'll gladly buy a round of beer, if you imbibe.

How was it? Worked Saturday, got back too late/overslept Sunday. Work always seems to get in the way(plus having the CC hacked yet again didn't help). Think Tucson is coming up soon-may try for that.

I'm back in California, I really liked the Phoenix Games.

Here's the Massed Bands for the opening ceremony on Saturday. There was a great turnout of bands and public.

The star was the Isle of Skye Pipe Band, the first UK band to attend the Phoenix Games. They wear Isle of Skye tartan as one would suspect!

Here I'm in the Clan Stewart tent with Jack Stewart

I haven't posted for years, but I still read the forum.

I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to meet. I saw you for just a fleeting moment along the pipe band competition area. You were headed (with speed and purpose!) in the direction of the lake, while my wife and I were headed the other direction, more or less on our way out.

    Maybe next year!

I don't know if they held the games last year. This was our first time back since March of 2020. I've let my hair grow out during the pandemic, so I wore pretty much the same clothing as I wore then to get a before and after photo.

Me at the Phoenix highland games in March of 2020:

And again in March of 2023:
