Ashbourne cancelled

I've just found out that the Ashbourne Highland games have been cancelled this year due to financial constraints. The hope is to bring it back bigger and better in 2016 so here's fingers crossed. So Harpenden here I come !

I'd heard this elsewhere. Not good news. Once you miss a year it is very hard to re-establish a games as bands, dancers and heavy athletics competitors fill their diaries by going elsewhere. I can say this from experience having been secretary and treasurer of our local games here which we were last able to hold in 2011. I do hope Ashbourne can be revived but I'm not optimistic.

I'm sorry to hear about Hawick games Alec. Ashbourne is such a massive event that I'm sure they'll revive it. The problem was that they got washed out a couple of years on the trot and lost so much money. I'm just praying for a few dry summers from next year onwards!
