Conyers Pre-Stone Mountain Gathering on Friday
It's once again time for the pre-Stone Mountain Highland Games Cattle Reiving and Hooliganfest at the Celtic Tavern on Friday before Stone Mountain Highland Games. It is my sad duty to confess that I cannot be present, but Lamar Britt and Twice blessed will be there to show you around. (I have to be out of town on business, but that's a story for another venue.)
It's always one of the highlights of the weekend for me--laid back, each going, no pressure, dress as you please, and generally get to meet and know a lot of X-markers and local folks around here.
Sign on, come on down to the Celtic Tavern (I do not own an interest; just like the place). http://www.celtictavernconyers.com/

Thanks for the invitation Jim, but we will be in the air all day from CA. (via Dallas), scheduled to arrive in Atlanta around 5:00 PM. I suspect we will be looking for a little down time when we arrive, so will miss the get together. I do hope we will have the opportunity to meet at the games though. Will you be back in the mix by then?

Creag, come ahead, don't worry about dress; as long as you're covered we won't get tossed out. I don't recall what time I got there last year, traffic from Norcross is iffy. I think I was around seven or shortly after. Shooting for earlier this year. Lamar is just outside of Conyers, so he'll probably be the first one there. Maybe Jim will recall his usual start time for us. It's laid back, and good folk; it was my
first time out of the house kilted, and went well. See you Friday.

Kilts are not required, although when the reiving and pillaging starts, they may make you stay back with the girls!
I always tried to get there about 5:30 or so. The place opens for lunch, so whenever you show up will be fine. Just look for kilted guys. The girls who serve as wait staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and they are used to guys in kilts. Nothing much phases them. You can make yourself at home on the street or inside, but street side should be very pleasant. And I can recommend anything on the menu. The food is excellent, and the shepherd's pie cannot be beaten.

when and where
As Jim has generally gotten there earlier than I did last year, Lamar and I will shoot for earlier as well. A couple of folk are driving in from a distance and will be about seven, but earlier is fine, one of us will be there.
The Tavern is The Celtic Tavern, 918 Commercial Street, Conyers GA. I just attempted to provide a link to the location,
which I have done in the past; it now only lets me link to google maps, not the search page. Apologies. Either I'm doing
it wrong now, or I did something wrong before and it worked when shouldn't have. It's easy to find. I went back to Jim's
link to the Tavern site in post one, and it includes an embedded map, anyway.
Just a warning: as I was hitting "enter" for this post, the phone rang. Lamar may be a little later waiting for UPS. We may
be visited by the tartan that shall not be named, or, possibly, we shall all be eaten before the evening is over.

I had thought about coming down and camping at the Stone Mountain games this year, but it didn't work out.

We had a smaller gathering this year than last, but enjoyable. Jim, Beowulf, and ForresterModern and others all there last year but unable to attend this year. I arrived just after six to find Mattie and his wife enjoying snacks earlier than expected. Good conversation, joined by Larry Dirr (Chainsaw02) and his wife. Lamar arrived anon, and very pleasant evening ensued. At least for me, hopefully all. Dixiecat had sent Lamar a moving remembrance of Turpin to Lamar to read; he did, and glasses were raised. Turpin was definitely appreciated and missed. Glasses raised again to to the Jim's health, and then to all absent. Pictures are all Mattie's, when his situation is calmer we'll get him to add them to this thread, though they can be seen in the main Stone Mountain thread. They are the nice and
respectable looking folk, I'm the guy with the long beard.
Thanks to all for joining us, it was a treat for me.
