I would be interested in finding out how highland games ended up in the Czech Republic. One doesn't think of that as a hotbed of Scots immigrants.

It's all down to the organiser Vaclav (Vasek) Rout, a Czech/German scotophile and piper. The first games were in 2000 when he just got a bunch of his mates together to produce the first ever. Since then it's been going from strength to strength and, although I haven't been for a couple of years due to other commitments, it's the best fun ever.

The date this year is the 16th of this month, still time to plan getting there!!

Can anyone provide directions for getting there? I'm very near the Czech Border on the German side, about 2 hours away from Prague.
I could not find anything on the english language web page.

A_Hay, follow this link which might help. Failing that they used to have a coach link from the train station at Liberec on the day

I've decided to try to get over to the Czech Highland Games this weekend. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive. I sent a couple of emails to the organizer, Valclav Rout, who was kind enough to give me directions and tell me about camping at the games.
I don't speak Czech, but with a little German and English, I'm sure I can get by.
I'll post pics when I return.
Thanks Londonpiper for bringing this to our attention.

I know this web site is out-of-date, but it does chronicle the Burns Night celebrations in Prague:

Our society exchanged Burns Night greetings with them in '06.
Aw'ra best,
Todd
