Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I rather think that I will endevour to be far,far away from Stirling then! I hasten to add, not to avoid our many visitors who are planning to attend the event, but the last event of this kind, left a nasty and lasting taste in the mouths of some Scots.

It's a relatively long time in the future but I'm thinking of going.

What went wrong last time?

A fair question though.

Broadly speaking the organisers neglected to include the locals in the party and after the event when the loss making accounts were produced it was the local contractors etc.,who did not get paid for the services that they provided and Scots taxpayers ended up with the bill to boot.

I'll probably still come over for it and stay a bit longer (make a holiday of it), that way I can "do my bit" to help the locals!

Let's hope that the organisers get it right this time.

Didn't this happen in 2009 as well?

I was talking specifically of the "Home Coming" thing in 2009 and I assume we are talking about a similar event at Stirling in 2014. If. If I am talking at cross purposes, then I apologise unreservedly and will withdraw from the conversation forthwith.

The authorities who sanction the Clan Gathering 2014 should require the organizers to be bonded. This will obviate the need for local contractors to worry about getting completely stiffed. Hopefully, they learned their lesson from the 2009 games.
