I'll be there! (The Queen Mary, that is.)

Playing with the LA Scots (4).

The LA Scots (1) will be there as The Long Beach Police Pipe Band.

I hear that this year all the vendors are moved off the boat, and that the Games themselves will be on asphalt rather than grass.

Several of the Athletes on the board will be there. GGGP, eclarkbh, and myself will be there on Saturday. I'll be there on Sunday. You can find us in the athletics area. I'm the big, old guy pulling tape and taking pictures of the women. Eric is the guy winning the C class. GGGP is the littlest female thrower with the great legs and a really fantastic new purple kilt. LOL

The throwing events had better NOT be on asphalt!! LOL

We're going tomorrow because there is rain forecast for Sunday. Too bad it's not onboard. I haven't been on that ship since I was a kid.

Games on asphalt? Ouch... That's a lot of pot holes.

Not so sure once aboard you would not be disappointed. I have been to two functions on board (I live in the local area) that were disappointing because the facilities were old and worn. The ship has definitely seen better days. I am not conversant in all of the details but I know financially they have struggled over the years. It did not help that a woman recently plunged to her death off the ship .

The food vendors will be outside but the regular vendors will be in their regular place onboard.

Re: Long Beach Scottish Festival & Games

Went yeterday and had a good time. A little smaller than I expected. All the vendors and clans were set up outside in front of the ship. Food vendors were few are far between which resulted in some crazy lines, so we ate in the restaurant onboard.

The games took place on a small grass area and not on the asphalt. The pipe bands were very good. My mom spent a lot of time watching the dancing (she used to dance when she was a kid) and she really liked. The weather was perfect so it was a nice way to spend a day. If I'm in SoCal next year I'm sure I'll go again.
