NH Highland Games - Loon Mountain Advice

Michele and I are planning to go to Loon Mountain Highland games this September.
    Any advice on lodging?

    Geoff:

The lodging is like most 'resort' towns. Some "Mom & Pop" but mostly chain motels/hotels. My only suggestion, make the reservation early as possible as there is a NASCAR race the same weekend. Places will fill quickly and the rooms prices (seemingly) are higher about 6 months before. Many h/motels are on the bus route so you can leave the car and take the bus to the games. Check out their site as they have / had a page of the "local" h/motels but keep a map handy as even though it ,may be listed, the location may be a drive to get to the games.

PS: don't forget to attend the "rabble" photo shoot, usually at the Buchanan clan tent

I've stayed at the Indian Head resort which is a little farther from the games but I like it and will stay there again. Regardless of where you stay, Loon does a first rate job with transportation. The shuttle busses to and from all the local hotels run constantly and they save the hassle of having to drive and park.

I'll look forward to meeting you at Loon in September!

Yes, EARLY is the word if you want to get a room. I camp there. Never had a problem.

I went to the 2010 games, rented a condom for a week at Loon Mountain Resort through RCI. The accomodation was across the Kancamagus Highway, only a five minute walk from the games site. Bear in mind though that their lets are from Saturday to Saturday so you may want to combine it with some sightseeing in the White Mountains. My let was for the week leading up to the Games. SteveB from Xmarks got me into his accomodation for the Saturday night of the games so I could stay the extra night and attend the games again on the Sunday.
It was around this time of year in 2010 when I made my booking for the September of that year, these places fill up at Highland Games time.

I agree with other posters that reservations should be made early.

From there, it depends on your needs and budget.

If cost were not an issue, the most convenient option is the Mountain Club with lodging at the base of the mountain in the heart of the activity. We have done this a couple of years and although it is not the cheapest option, the advantages are many. We enjoyed having an easy access to our room during the course of the day rather than packing up everything you "might" need (chairs, jackets cooler, etc) and taking the shuttle buses from the parking lots "in-town". The lines for the shuttles are VERY long at the end of the day!

There are also many resorts and hotels within a mile or two of the resort and the shuttle buses stop along the way. But you are still left with packing what you need. I use one of these ( http://www.amazon.com/Rio-Beach-Wond.../dp/B000AS7SY8), load it up and park it at the clan tent for the day.

You can use vrbo.com or homeaway.com to find private rentals for the various resorts in the area.

Good Luck and look forward to seeing you there!

Lost in the translation between Scottish English and American English!!
I thought condom was a word which American readers would understand, short for Condominium.
Here in Europe we would call it a Timeshare.
Condom means something quite different over here.

And in America I believe condom means the same as it does over there as well. Here the abbreviation for condomium is condo.
We also have timeshares but these are places that you rent for a specific period each year. A condo is something you buy and live in permanently, the same as a house.
