NYC Tattoo
I'll be attending the NYC Tattoo this weekend and I was wondering if anyone had any idea what level of dress would be appropriate.
Cheers!

My guess is you will see the full range of attire above shorts/tshirt. This is the first year so there is little to go by. But I assume whatever you choose will fit in.
I can't make it this year so I will be interested to receive your review on the event and feedback on the attire.

Gail & I are heading down in our kilts for the Tartan Parade Saturday. I've never been, so have no idea what works best, but expect to wear one of my Ancient Campbell kilts (PV or wool?), a bright blue shirt (or tattersall?) and some kind of neat tie, my medium dark gray wool vest, gray wool tweed kilt jacket, black Rob Roy sporran, and something comfortable on my feet. Not sure which hose I will wear. I'm not sure I can make the 10 block walk, but will try. I may wear my new burgundy bonnet as well.
I would imagine folks would wear a wide variety of kilt gear to the tattoo, simialr to what we will see with the parade. I would not dress formally for the parade, but might consider it for the tattoo.

Thanks for your input. I was planning on wearing either my wool 5 yard casual kilt from Burnetts & Struth or my PV semi-trad from USA Kilts along with a tattersall shirt. I don't have a proper kilt jacket, but I do have a nice waistcoat. Not sure if the waistcoat and no jacket would be too casual or awkward. A sweater over the tattersall would be a good compromise, I think, but it might be too warm for that if we're tromping around the City all afternoon.
Please keep your opinions coming!

I'm trying to figure out whether my PV semi-trad from USA Kilts or my 8 yard wool kilt from Bonnie Heather Greene would be most comfortable sitting in for hours on the way down and walking around all day and then hours sitting again till we get home late. We're taking the Megabus from Albany. I expect I will wear the vest and waistcoat and jacket as they say it's going to be 62. I don't think just a waistcoat would keep me warm, but I get colder the older I get.
Best of luck to ya!

Speaking with my buddy who's heading in with me for the Parade and Tattoo, he pointed out that it'll be in the 50's if we're lucky during the afternoon, but by the time we're trying to find our way back to Grand Central it'll be dropping towards the 30's. Perhaps a sweater is in order.
Also, I've seen that some folks are heading to the Perfect Pint at some point during the day. Is anyone going to the post-parade party at Desmond's (mentioned HERE)?

Boy, I don't know where you're getting your weather forecast from, but mine says 50 at 10 a.m., 58 at noon, 62 at 3, and staying at or above 50 till 9 or 10. Look here: http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/new...349727?hour=65
On the other hand, I don't trust weather people!
We'll probably do lunch and dinner here: http://www.standrewsnyc.com/ but that remains to be seen. Lunch probably, but the place may be packed. I shouldn't even be pointing it out here, I probably won't get a seat now!

We will be there for the Tattoo tomorrow evening and marching under the Clan Chattan banner in the Saturday parade. I try to go to the service at the church beforehand as the pipe band that shows up there is phenomenally good. XMarks often has brunch at the Ploughman's something or other (see other posts?) before the parade. I go to the St.Andrew's Pub afterwards and refuse to take no as an answer - has always got me in.
Suitable wear - you got to be kidding, in NYC? It's all over the map. I wear normal day dress. Going to be colder than usual, and some chance of rain.

What church?
We're getting off the bus at 10:40 (supposedly) and hightailing it to St. Andrews Restaurant to meet the regional commissioner for Clan Campbell Assoc - NA. We'll be there till the parade starts. Our bus gets in at 7th & 28th, and leaves at 8:15 from the Javits Center
Accuweather still says 62 mid-afternoon, sunny, bit of a wind, but does not suggest a chance of rain. I'm bringing a rain coat anyways.
Cheers!

As was noted in another thread, Downunder Kilt and I met up at the Ringwood, Victoria, Australia, Highland Games -- I remember commenting to Mike about the variety of observed dress -- everything from steam-punk to renfaire to variations on CHCD (From kilt and doublet on through PCs, a variety of other jackets, etc) to tartan army.
So, what am I saying? Wear what you feel comfortable in. Given the temperatures people are talking about, I'd be wearing a 5-8yd wool kilt with a long sleeve shirt and a tweed jacket -- if I didn't have a jacket, I'd be thinking some sort of jumper (That's a pullover sweater in Yank )
Be comfortable -- look good -- act confident -- you're setting the style for future events.
