    Queen Mary Scots Fest 2018

    Anyone else going?

I'll be there Sunday playing with the Long Beach Pipe Band.

    Here we are (at Pleasanton)

(Saturday I'll be at Long Beach Comic Expo, bummer they schedule both events the same weekend.)

I competed as a solo piper at Pleasanton one year. Although I'm from Houston, I was not prepared for the heat and I just about keeled over despite being adequately hydrated.

This past year, was record heat. We never made it. At 50 miles away, it was over 100, mid morning. There, it was to hit 112-113 degrees.

We made to the Pleasanton (broiler) gathering and games ahggggggggggggg HOT!!!!! We had a Japanese exchange student with us, she was sweltering she is from a coastal city in Northern Japan. She is gone to a second family now to finish the school year but she did say even with the heat it was her favorite thing she did while with us. She love watching the Highland athletes.

At the Felton gathering, I caught up with one of the food vendors, I’ve known for years. They were at the Notso-Pleasanton Gathering. His comment about the heat, “It was so hot, it was almost silly to turn on the fryers for the fish & chips”. Hopefully Long Beach will be pleasant.

At last year's (2017) Pleasanton (San Francisco) Games it was 114 F on Saturday, but fortunately a cold front moved through on Sunday and it dropped to 107 F! It was downright dangerous, though I heard of no one dying. I have to say that if temperatures are predicted to be that high in the future, I very regrettably will not attend.
