Some photos from Highland Games last summer
Or...
"What To Do on a Saturday Afternoon"
Go watch strapping young men in kilts throw heavy stuff around. (and ignore the announcer when, after five hours, he mentions how old they are because then you just feel really icky and dirty.)
Good times...
Ok, so there were a few legal ones.

Haggis for lunch

Weight for distance

Hammer throw - that's a 16 pound weight at the end

Shief toss - a bag of hay weighing 16 pounds thrown with a pitch fork

(there are a lot more... but it won't let me post them, so once this thread is up I'll add them! And excuse the "information" in the posts, this is copied off of my other board.)

Caber toss - about 16 feet long and weighing over 100 pounds

this one finally did fall

Heavy weight for height

When it was all over, I talked them into letting me go up the ladder to shoot down at someone tossing a shief up towards me. I was at the top of the latter, with one of the pro level guys flinging the 16 pound bag over the bar at me... 24 feet in the air at the top of an extension ladder. Cool pictures though!

Oh yeah, there were pipers there too...

Great pictures . . . but what were those wallies doing in their pith helmets?

Thanks everyone! The ladder photos were fun, but a little frightening at times! lol
I have a pile more on my website - The Highland Weekend at the Sterling Renaissance Festival, The Central New York Scottish Games and Celtic Festival and The 26th Annual Scottish Festival and Highland Games hosted by the Amherst Museum.
The ones I just posted are from Amherst.
