Spokane Highland Games
If anyone is going to the Spokane Highland Games this year, they are going off this Saturday, August 3rd. I will be there; I am organizing and administering the Piping and Drumming competition. This is my first year doing this, after assisting last year and competing for a number of years. Oh, well, no good deed goes unpunished. If you're at the Games, come up and say 'hi.' Maybe we can get a photo. It's going to be a great day!

I will be there at some point during the day......with my Navy Kilt and Fire District shirt on.

See you there. If everything is going well, I'll be with a Spokane Highland Games polo and Gunn modern kilt. If there are problems, I'll be the one running around with my hair on fire! I much prefer the former to the latter.

Made it to the games in time to leave for an emergency. What little I saw looked like an improvement from last year.......not as many vendors though, must have been because of the threat of rain. Hope all went well. Maybe next year I will be able to enjoy the games for a full day!

The weather: Friday (set-up day) we received over an inch of rain--very unusual here for August. I joked that it was a fine, soft Scottish summer day. On the day (Saturday), we had cool temps and overcast. I got there at 7:30 to start the piping and drumming competition at 9. 54 competitors in 6 divisions and this was my first go at organizing. Bit like swimming in the rapids with large stones in my pockets. Got through everyone by 12:15 to send the massed bands over to the opening ceremonies. The afternoon was the pipe band competitions, quartet competitions, pipe band exhibitions and drum salutes, then massed bands at the closing ceremonies. By the end of the day, we were sunny and temps up to about 80 degrees F. If you discount my piping duties, I saw nothing but a vendor (new chanter reeds) and a sheepdog exhibition. Oh, and a dram of Laphroig with a buddy before I took down my set-up and head home. Long day.

Post some pics, if you can. I would love to see them.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I was running my butt off all the day. My camera was in my sporran, fully charged and I got not one chance to pull it out. Or like the sheriff in Blazing Saddles said: "Excuse me while I whip this out." Maybe I can find some pics at another source.

It sounded like you were pretty busy, but I was hoping you might have a pic, or two.
Maybe next year.
