10 Gallons of Blood Donated

Started donating blood back in 1963 in college...got away from it for a while and have been a regular donor for the past 20 years. Gave my 80th pint today at the local hospital when the blood wagon came to town.
Being the 10th gallon they sent a reporter from our local paper to do a write up. Got a bunch of kilt questions. Explained I was wearing the Firefighter's Memorial tartan. Had to explain to her what a tartan was, but got the job done. Nice lady. New in town. Single....
Also got a bunch of fanfare and goodies from the blood donor team, hospital staff, and auxillary. Can't donate as often up here in the canyonlands since the donor team doesn't come to town often. Have managed to give 20 pints since the current war started. Maybe do some good for an olde man.
Earlier in the day I was in clinical staffing and we had two ladies come in to tell us about their hospice agency opening a branch in town. First thing one lady says in front of us as she's looking at me, "Did you bring your bagpipes." I responded, "I have about a thousand answers to that question, but none of them are appropriate to this venue." Cracked every one up and got me a scolding from the boss later....he thought everyone knew I meant something dirty...hey, she asked the question...thought I was being appropriate to defer it.
Then, about an hour later and a single female therapist my age - who's leaving the agency soon so we'll no longer be coworkers - stopped me in the hall, hugged me, and said, "Men in kilts are so sexy!"
Hey, win some, lose some.
And, I tried stacking kilt pins today. Added my blood donor pin and my mini-firefighter badge pin to the regular kilt pin.

I liked the look, but the little ones kept twisting around.
All in all a good day.

That's just an amazing number. "Well done" doesn't do it justice. They should name a Bloodmobile after you!

I believe I am at 7 pints, maybe a gallon, got a ways to go yet. 10 gallons, my hat is off to you!
Can you pm me or post about your mini firefighter badge? I have been on the hazmat team at work for around 5 years and was voted on to the city FD last night, so a pin is needed for the kilt.

I'd say that was a great day, not just a good day. Congratulations on hitting the 10 gallon mark. What's your next benchmark?

Well done, Ron. That is a heck of a generous accomplishment.
I was well on my way to the 4 gallon club between college and med school and had to stop donating when a minor medical condition was discovered requiring me to start taking a daily medication which is not compatible with being a donor anymore---been more than 20 years and I still wish I could give for the very reason you do. Bravo for your perseverence.
By the way, how are you so good at getting to know all the ladies in town, especially the fact that most of the ones you meet are single? Just curious, not that I need to know being happily married and all, but still curious. Seems to be a theme---maybe kilt related?
