    2013 West Virginia Games

Once again I flew out from California to visit family in West Virginia and attend the Games at Bridgeport WV.

    Here we are

The grounds are so lovely, nestled in the familiar West Virginia Hills. No pipe band contest this year (bummer!) so Solo Piping went all day. Here's a solo competitor and his judge

This fellow is a fine piper and looks the part too!

Another competitor, a man with fine military bearing

Competitors with their families in between contests, with a man who appears to be a judge or steward

Ah, what would a Highland Games be without traditional Scottish fare, such as...

No piping competition (which draws a dozen bands for free) so they have to pay a couple bands to perform during the day. This impressive band marching on to the grounds

Wonderful photos, Richard! Thanks for sharing. My wife and I are not too far away in Cincinnati and have met up with David Thorpe several times in the past. We wished we could have made it out this year...looks like the weather was cooperating, which is always a plus. A very beautiful setting indeed!

    Cheers,

Thanks for the pictures Richard (and you came all the way from California to take them). My wife and I hope to attend this event next year.

Much like you did, Susan and I are going to visit children/grandchildren in Columbus, Ohio so we can attend the Celtic (they call it Irish) festival in Dublin, OH (did I say that... I meant "to visit our family").

That's a hot one! In terms of weather. A scorcher whilst kilted, but it is feasible.
