4 Nights 5 Kilts. Lots of good times
Greetings to all. My girlfriend has been celebrating her birthday week--month.. well just celebrating. So we decided to go out a bit last weekend. Here are a few photos of my choice of dress.
Ill just preface this briefly by saying first of all I enjoy wearing kilts, second my girlfriend enjoys me wearing kilts. Yes I am one of the lucky ones. I am Texas/German yet am much a non traditionalist, hence after a visit to Scotland I now wear kilts. Im not trying to "Act like a Scot" nor do I claim to be one. When asked my clan I simply say I am German but enjoy the kilt. The traditional part of me enjoys most of the "Proper" way of wearing a kilt. Except for my Elkommando's Ill be dressed fairly proper in kilt, sporran, belt, hose, and other things. What I dont do is worry about the p's and q's totally. I do admire the people here who do dress to the T's and know what is proper. I also admire all the folks here who like the kilt. For me it is a very comfortable and presentable form of clothing that I must admit to enjoy wearing. In choosing my kilts I try to steer from clan affiliation so I dont offend, which has allowed me to find some very nice kilts. I wear them proudly, not as a statement or a challenge to the people around me, but as a fine garment rich in history that is most comfortable and attractive. I even know well how to fend off the occasional question of what is under the kilt. That all said I want to share my weekend of enjoyment with my girlfriend and some of my friends.
NIght one was just a movie night, even though it was sold out. Temps have been mild here so casual is the word. Most people I meet or know would not know a sporran from a Prince Charlie so I keep myself pretty casual, as I always did in jeans. Night one was my saffron kilt which allows me to wear my plaid flannel shirts. A wool vest topped it off. Some charcoal hose I bought in Scotland, home made wool tie garters, brown leather sporran and belt and sgian dubh rounded it out. Unfortunately the movie was sold out so we enjoyed some brews and dinner and went and opened up a new sewing machine we just bought.

Next night was Friday and we attended a gathering of my girlfriends friends. I wanted something a bit more dressy but casual. Three things were good ice breakers with people I didnt know. My home made Kim Chi, Baba Ganoush, and my kilt. Pretty much in that order. The Hamilton Grey kilt from Heritage of Scotland went well with the burgundy sweater and hose.

Saturday saw us having Indian food with a couple I know. They were taken a bit by my kilt but warmed up to it soon. After food we spent the evening sipping various whiskeys and scotches. It was a wonderful evening. This is my Bonnie Heather Greene tank. This is my first photos of it so I include one of the pleats. Rocky is the creator of the German Heritage tartan which I do love. 16 oz Marton Mills wool hand made by Bonnie Greene. It is a beaut of a kilt indeed and I wear it with true pride. It went well with my copper sweater.

Dang those pleats look gorgeous.

Sunday I headed out for a trail run. My Elkommando is my daily wear on my walk to and from work. I also wear it running. This winter I plan to make some lighter weight running kilts using box pleats. Weather was perfect in the low 40's for a 7 mile trail run.

Sunday evening saw us back eating Indian food with my girlfriend's parents. I like to wear my Stillwater Kilt Weathered MacKenzie Standard as a very casual kilt. It is a great kilt for earth tones and casual wear. Once again we enjoyed some wonderful company and Indian food.

So this was my 4 day 5 kilt weekend. Ill never be a proper wearer but I dont try to be. I will wear my kilts with respect to the heritage and also knowing they are fine garments that make men look quite nice. Thanks to all who are kilt wearers from the traditional wearers to the utility kilt wearers. I appreciate each and every one of you.

You look great!
I especially like your saffron kilt. It almost looks a shade darker than I am used to seeing, not sure if it's the lighting, your camera or that your kilt is slightly more pleasing to my eye than most saffron kilts I have seen. Looks a bit more brown than orange, at least in these pics to me.

Thank you, it is one I picked up on Ebay. Unlike the ones from Stillwater and other places that have the design that is shadowed in the fabric this kilt is a bit darker. That is what made me buy it as opposed to one of our other fine kilt vendors.

Nice collection (I have the Stillwater Mackenzie too), I like the relaxed style, and also a very nice articulation of your personal... 'philosophy' for lack of a better term on my part...
kilt on..

What an impressive array of handsome outfits! My favorite is the one built around the Hamilton Gray. I think the best-looking kilt is your MacKenzie Weathered, .... love the leather jacket with it. Nice choice of hose all around, too.
Some guys (like you) just look good in a kilt, while others (like me) struggle a bit. But, then again, you have bigger boobs than I have.
Thanks for posting all the pictures.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Ive been told that before. Seems when I take my own photos with my remote I am prone to stay to serious looking.. I really do enjoy my kilts and wearing them makes me very happy.

You look great, wear the kilt well.
Thanks for the idea of wearing plaid or tartan shirts with the saffron. Gonna try that.
