Alan H and the Luminous Joan misbehave in Scotland - Highland Games

All right, I'm finally going to post some KILT PHOTOS. This is me, mostly....looking how I usually look at the Games in my MacNaughton PV thrasher kilt and the Club tshirt.

Yours Truly hanging out at Alva before it POURED rain.

In the hammer cage, at Alva. I had the privilege with throwing with some serious athletes...Craig Sinclair, the current co-Scottish Champion, Lucacz Wenta, Lorne Colthart, Garry Hagan and so on.

Here are a couple of shots of the Caber at Inverness, ALSO pouring down rain.

Let's move on the Inveraray, probably my favorite Games because IT DIDN'T RAIN....Joan liked them, too. I got absolutely slaughtered at Inveraray, as it's the World Caber Championships so some big lads show up, but had a great time, anyway.

I won't re-post the wrestling pictures, they're in the August Challenge thread.

Here are the Inveraray weights. The 56 for distance is pretty normal, but the one in the lower left hand corner is the 28 for distance. There's no chain between the handle and the weight! It's REALLY short. I usually throw 47-50 feet with that implement but only managed 43 that day.

Inverary Hammers....I met former World Champion, Steven King at Inveraray. At Age 45 he still won the hammers event, tossing the 16 pounder 130 feet. That's a MORE than respectable toss for a 30 year old Pro-class thrower!

...and a view down the track where the runners will be doing their events...

Here's a shot of Joans favorite Vendor display at Inveraray. I can't imagine why she thought this was funny.

Inveraray light weight for distance... that implement with the short handle.

...and on to Airth, the day before we left. I had my best Games at Airth.

This is me, setting a personal best with the 56 pound weight on a knockoff bar.... 10' 6". I've crawled the 56'er over 11 feet on a fixed bar but it was ugly. I got this one clean and all my throws at 11 had the height to clear it clean, my timing was just off.

That's it! MAN that was fun!!

Competing in the games in Scotland had to be a thrill in itself, and to compete on the same field as some of the greats, you are on par with the champions, living the dream, it's what it's all about.... I dream, you actually do!
